El rapero 50 Cent se declaró en bancarrota ante un tribunal del estado de Connecticut (EE.UU.), después de que un jurado de Nueva York lo condenara a pagar 5 millones de dólares a una mujer que lo denunció por publicar sin su consentimiento un video de carácter sexual en el que aparecía.
El artista, cuyo nombre real es Curtis James Jackson III, asegura en los documentos presentados en el juzgado que tiene activos y deudas por valor de entre 10 y 50 millones de dólares.
50 Cent se declaró en bancarrota solo unos días después de ser condenado en Nueva York a compensar con al menos 5 millones a Lastonia Leviston, una mujer que le llevó ante la Justicia en 2010 por difundir en internet un vídeo privado.
En las imágenes, de contenido sexual, Leviston aparece junto a su entonces pareja y el cantante las distribuyó añadiendo comentarios sobre ella y el rapero Rick Ross, gran rival de 50 Cent y con quien la mujer había tenido un hijo, según medios locales.
50 Cent es uno de los artistas más exitosos del mundo del hip hop y a lo largo de su carrera, que vivió su mejor momento a principios de la década pasada, ha vendido más de 30 millones de discos y participado en numerosos proyectos empresariales.
Criado en el distrito neoyorquino de Queens durante los difíciles años 80, el rapero tuvo en su juventud numerosos problemas con la Justicia y en el año 2000 sobrevivió a un asalto en el que recibió nueve disparos.
