En el comunicado emitido el miércoles (08 de julio), Grande aclaró que ella está «extremadamente orgullosa de ser estadounidense», y que su frustración con el país estaba dirigido a su alta tasa de obesidad infantil – que la llevó a maldecir a las donas.
«Como defensora de la alimentación saludable, la comida es muy importante para mí y yo a veces me molesto por la forma que nosotros, los estadounidenses, consumen y consumen cosas sin pensar las consecuencias que tiene sobre nuestra salud y la sociedad en su conjunto», dijo Grande. Más tarde se concluye: «Dicho esto permítanme una vez más pedir disculpas si he ofendido a alguien con mi mala elección de palabras.»
