Estados Unidos.- El fundador del sitio de venta de drogas en línea Silk Road, Ross Ulbritch, fue condenado este viernes a cadena perpetua por una jueza en Nueva York.
Ulbricht, de 31 años, quien creó el sitio web en 2011, fue declarado culpable en febrero pasado de lavado de dinero, narcotráfico, piratería informática y empresa criminal.
Su sitio, conocido como «el eBay de la droga», permitía adquirir heroína, cocaína, LSD y otros productos ilegales, como documentos falsos, mediante el empleo de la moneda virtual bitcoin para garantizar el anonimato a miles de compradores en todo el mundo.
La jueza federal Katherine Forrest condenó a Ulbricht a dos penas de cadena perpetua, más 5, 15 y 20 años, por varios delitos.
El sitio ofrecía desde kits de pirateo y documentos falsos hasta un servicio de asesinos a sueldo, según la acusación.
Se sospecha que Ulbricht ordenó matar a seis personas de su entorno para proteger el secreto sobre las transacciones del sitio web. Sin embargo, nada determinó que estos asesinatos se concretaran.
Según la acusación, el creador del sitio recaudó una fortuna de 18 millones de dólares a través de SilkRoad. El sitio registró más de un millón de transacciones de droga en tres años.
