Veinte personas heridas y cuantiosos daños materiales es el saldo provisional de un terremoto de 5.5 grados de intensidad en la escala de Richter que sacudió el domingo la provincia suroccidental china de Yunnan, según informó hoy la agencia oficial Xinhua.
El sísmo tuvo su epicentro en la comarca de Cangyuan a las 18:24 hora local del domingo (10:24 GMT) y causó graves daños en las viviendas de la zona, situada en la frontera con Myanmar (Birmania).
Las autoridades han enviado a la zona un millar de tiendas, 2.000 mantas y 20.000 metros cuadrados de lonas para atender a las familias que han perdido sus hogares.
La zona está habitada sobre todo por minorías étnicas campesinas, cuyas viviendas no están preparadas para resistir movimientos sísmicos.
En la misma zona, un seísmo de 6.5 grados de intensidad ocurrido el 3 de agosto causó más de 600 muertos y destruyó alrededor de 80.000 casas.
