21 millones de personas estudian español en todo el mundo, lo cual significa un incremento de casi 1.5 millones de alumnos respecto a 2014, informó el Instituto Cervantes.
La institución que promueve la lengua y la cultura hispanoamericanas, presentó en su sede de Madrid, España, el informe «El español: una lengua viva«, donde se especifica el uso de la lengua y el número de hablantes.
Estados Unidos, Brasil y Francia lideran en el ranking de alumnos que aprenden español en el extranjero, sin embargo, también destacan países del África subsahariana, especialmente Benin, Costa de Marfil y Senegal.
El español también es el tercer idioma más utilizado en la red, aglutinando a casi el ocho por ciento de los usuarios, lo cual la posiciona como la segunda lengua más importante por número de visitas en Wikipedia, dentro de 280 lenguas, así como el segundo en Facebook y Twitter.
En el mundo 470 millones de personas tienen al español como lengua materna, eso quiere decir un 6.7 por ciento de la población mundial.
Este 20 de junio se celebra el Día E o Día del Español.
Para 2030 los hispanohablantes serán el 7.5 por ciento de la población mundial y dentro de tres o cuatro generaciones el 10 por ciento de la población mundial se entenderá en español.
