El Estado Islámico asesinó y colgó atados de pies a ocho víctimas en la ciudad de Hawija, en la región de Kirkuk. Los cuerpos fueron colocados vestidos con el uniforme del ejército de Irak en los altos tubos de una estructura metálica en la que también lucía la bandera de la organización.
No se ha confirmado si los cuerpos correspondan a miembros reales del ejército. La imagen fue difundida por ISIS a través de sus redes sociales. En ella, es posible observar a Abu al-Rahman, uno de los más fieros combatientes del Estado Islámico, frente a los cuerpos levantando el dedo hacia arriba, salido yihadista que significa “No hay más que un Dios que Alá y Mahoma es su profeta”.
Esta no es la primera vez que Al-Rahman es identificado en na foto de esta naturaleza. Antes fueron famosas las fotos en las que aparecía junto a cabezas decapitadas.
Kirkuk es uno de los puntos estratégicos para el Estado Islámico por su riqueza petrolera. ISIS ha perdido el control sobre este producto en diversas regiones tras la ofensiva de Estados Unidos y sus aliados, por lo que se aferra a éste con una estrategia particularmente violenta.
