De acuerdo con dicha estrategia, el Departamento de Defensa “debería poder utilizar operaciones cibernéticas para trastornar las redes de mando y control de un adversario, infraestructura crucial relacionada con actividades militares y capacidades de armamento”.
Por otro lado, se dio a conocer una irrupción por parte de piratas cibernéticos rusos en una red de cómputo de defensa no secreta este año, pero las autoridades lograron identificar a los intrusos en un lapso de 24 horas.
La estrategia también incluye por primera vez una pequeña sección sobre las preocupaciones estadunidenses en torno al continuo espionaje cibernético por parte de China contra compañías y agencias de Estados Unidos.
Dice que Washington seguirá tratando de trabajar con Beijing para traer mayor entendimiento y transparencia sobre las misiones cibernéticas de cada nación, con el fin de «reducir los riesgos de percepciones erróneas y errores de cálculo».
