Diseñado por el reconocido arquitecto Frank Gehry, el nuevo edificio de la red social es definido por Mark Zuckerberg, fundador y presidente de Facebook, como “bastante simple y sin lujos”, quien además explicó que esa decisión era “voluntaria”.
El lugar busca hacer sentir a los visitantes todo lo que falta por hacer para conectar al mundo, “creando un espacio de ingeniería perfecto en el que todos los equipos de la empresa trabajen juntos”, según se reseña en el perfil de Facebook de Zuckerberg.
El CEO de Facebook, continúa su descripción agregando que “diseñamos la mayor oficina abierta del mundo, es decir una sola habitación que alberga a miles de personas. Hay muchos espacios pequeños donde se puede trabajar en equipo, y así es fácil que las personas se desplacen y colaboren con todo el mundo”. Para la inauguración, la red social invitó a algunos usuarios de Instagram a recorrer y fotografiar las oficinas.
El espacio total alberga nueve hectáreas en las que conviven edificios, senderos, jardines y espacios al aire libre donde el personal puede lo mismo relajarse que reunirse a disfrutar de la puesta del sol o, si tiene una junta, reunirse en una sala llena de pelotas de plástico y animales de esponja. Además, muchas de las paredes y pasillos fueron intervenidos por artistas residentes, apunta el portal mexicano Publimetro.
El arquitecto Gehry también estuvo a cargo del diseñó del Walt Disney Concert Hall de Los Ángeles y el Museo Guggenheim de España.
