La CIA trabaja desde hace años en descifrar la encriptación de los aparatos Apple a fin de poder espiar las comunicaciones realizadas desde los iPhones y iPads, afirma una investigación publicada el martes por un diario estadounidense.
The Intercept, diario en línea dirigido por Glenn Greenwald, se sustenta en documentos secretos develados por Edward Snowden para afirmar que la Agencia Central de Inteligencia (CIA) intenta desde 2006, es decir un año antes del lanzamiento del iPhone, penetrar las claves cifradas de los aparatos Apple.
Según el excontratista de la agencia de seguridad NSA, los investigadores involucrados en esta misión trabajan en Sandia National Laboratories, y presentaron sus trabajos durante una reunión secreta en la CIA en 2012. Miembros de la NSA habrían también participado.
Sus trabajos se enmarcan en un programa nacional más amplio de seguridad de las comunicaciones, alimentado por un «presupuesto secreto» como lo muestran estos documentos revelados por Edward Snowden.
Ni la CIA ni Apple respondieron a las solicitudes de la AFP.
Apple y Google habían anunciado el año pasado que reforzarían su sistema de codificación de sus teléfonos portátiles. Eso, dijeron, para que la administración estadounidense no pueda tener acceso a sus aparatos incluso con autorización legal.
Los documentos de Snowden no indican si los investigadores lograron su cometido.
