Kivalina, un pequeño pueblo de menos de 400 personas se encuentra en una frágil barrera del mar Chukchi, a 100 km del Círculo Ártico, donde el hielo es ahora tan delgado que se ha convertido en área peligrosa para pesca y ahora, de vivienda.

La comunidad que consiste en 85 casas, la escuela que es el edificio más grande, una oficina postal y una pista de aterrizaje, está en constante peligro de evacuación puesto que a simple vista se puede observar una capa muy delgada de hielo, además, es de las zonas de Ártico que se está calentando al doble de promedio de cualquier otro lugar en la tierra.
