Kabul.- Abdul Rauf, dirigente del Estado Islámico (EI) en Afganistán murió hoy en un ataque con dronde la OTAN en la provincia suroccidental de Helmand.
Perdió la vida junto a otros insurgentes en el distrito Kajaki, cuando se desplazaba en un vehículo y fue interceptado por un dron, dijo Mohamed Jan Rasoulyar, el vicegobernador de Helmand, a EFE.
Precisó que otros tres guerrilleros extranjeros y el yerno de Rauf murieron en el ataque, que se produjo alrededor de las 13.20, tiempo local de hoy.
La agencia señaló que el comandante del EI encabezaba la lista de los órganos de seguridad de Afganistán desde hacía un mes.
Abdul Rauf, también conocido como «Jadim» había sido nombrado en enero subgobernador del EI para Jorasan, una región que incluye Afganistán, partes de Pakistán, Tayikistán y zonas limítrofes.
Un miembro del Parlamento afgano, Obaidulá Barekzai, dijo recientemente a EFE que Abdul Rauf había sido un colaborador cercano del máximo líder talibán, el mulá Omar, aunque ya no trabajaba con los talibanes y sí para el EI.
La presencia real del EI en Afganistán ha sido motivo de discusión en las últimas meses, después de que surgieran diferentes denuncias sobre supuestas campañas de reclutamiento.
