El montañista Heraldo Javier Callupan Devaud falleció el miércoles mientras intentaba escalar el monte McKinley, uno de los montes más importantes de Alaska.
Según informaron medios alaskeños, Callupan fue hallado muerto por el Servicio de Parques Nacionales y las causas de su muerte aún no han sido determinadas. El cuerpo no presentaba signos visibles de golpes.
El hombre, oriundo de General Roca, provincia de Río Negro, era el único escalador acampando en el campamento de altura cuando un grupo de escaladores llegó y lo encontró sin vida el pasado 10 de mayo.
Su cuerpo aún no fue retirado del lugar de deceso debido a lo accidentado de la geografía. El equipo de rescate se encuentra haciendo la aclimatización para poder bajarlo, pero puede llevar días, aseguran.
Callupán era un experimentado escalador que oficiaba como guía de excursiones y cursos en Roca y otras zonas de la Patagonia, y se había propuesto hacer cumbre en las siete montañas más altas del mundo. En 2012, había escalado el monte Elbrus, en Rusia, como ahora buscaba hacerlo en el monte McKinley, en la cordillera de Alaska.
