Nepal.- El terremoto de 7.9 grados en Nepal ha dejado 2 mil 357 muertos hasta el momento y más de 6 mil heridos, según datos oficiales y de la prensa.
La policía nacional informó ayer por la noche que el número de muertos había pasado de mil 953 a 2 mil 152 personas.
Pero un nuevo balance, divulgado por el Ministerio del Interior, da cuenta de 2 mil 357 víctimas fatales y 6 mil 327 heridos.
Los reportes de autoridades extranjeras informan que 57 personas originarias de India habrían muerto en el terremoto. China reporta 17 fallecidos en la región de Tibel.
El sismo con epicentro en el norte de la capital de Katmandú es el más devastador en 80 años y ha destruído elementos del patrimonio histórico de la ciudad.
El apoyo internacional ya comenzó a manifestarse con el envío de Estados Unidos de equipos de socorro y el desbloqueo de 1 millón de dólares.
Expertos de la Unión Europe viajarán a la zona afectada y Noruega anunció el desbloqueo de 3,5 millones de euros.
India evacuó a sus ciudadanos varados en aviones militares mientras que 62 equipos de rescate chinos llegaron al área con perros entrenados.
En cuanto a la réplica que se registró en el Everest y que ha dejado 22 muertos hasta el momento, el gobierno envió helicópteros para rescatar al menos a 40 alpinistas.
Sin embargo, se reportan más de 200 desaparecidos y 61 heridos, 41 de ellos graves. Según AFP, al momento del sismo había 800 personas en los campamentos que sufrieron la avalancha.
La mayoría de las víctimas serían extranjeros.
