Washington.- Tras el inicio del toque de queda decretado por el Ayuntamiento de Baltimore el lunes,se volvieron a registrar enfrentamientos violentos entre la Policía y manifestantes, quienes continúan sus protestas por la muerte de un joven negro Freddie Gray, que se encontraba bajo custodia policial.
Si bien, ha cesado el clima de violencia generalizada que se vivió el lunes, tras el funeral de Gray, la Policía informó de disturbios en algunas zonas de la ciudad tras el implementarse el toque de queda que inició a las 22:00 horas y culminará a las 05:00 horas del día siguiente.
En esos puntos, los manifestantes lanzaron objetos contra los agentes y éstos respondieron con el lanzamiento de gas pimienta para forzarlos a dispersarse.
Incluso, reportó la autoridad, algunos de los manifestantes prendieron una hoguera a las afueras de una biblioteca.
Ante ello, la Policía de Baltimore advirtió en su cuenta de Twitter: «Quienes no respetan el toque de queda están rechazando el cumplimiento de las órdenes de los agentes de la ley de que abandonen el área».
Dos mil miembros de la Guardia Nacional y otros mil policías patrullaron esta noche las calles de Baltimore para tratar de evitar que se repitan los violentos sucesos de ayer que se saldaron con varios agentes heridos y numerosos daños materiales.
A la Policía de Baltimore se han sumado efectivos de poblaciones y estados aledaños como Pensilvania, Nueva Jersey y el Distrito de Columbia, donde se encuentra la capital de EU, Washington, para ayudar en un despliegue policial que ocupa gran parte de la ciudad.
