RABAT, 10 de abril.- Al menos 31 personas murieron, la mayoría de ellos menores de edad, y nueve resultaron heridas tras un accidente de autobús registrado en la provincia de Tan-Tan, en el sur de Marruecos.
Según las autoridades provinciales citadas por la agencia oficial marroquí MAP, el accidente del autobús, perteneciente a la Compañía Marroquíes de Transporte, ocurrió a unos 40 kilómetros de la ciudad de Tan-Tan en la carretera hacia El Aaiún.
El fatal suceso se produjo cuando el autobús chocó contra un camión, colisión que provocó además un enorme incendio, informó el sitio marroquí de noticias Yabidal.
La mayoría de las víctimas murieron por el incendio que estalló en el autobús inmediatamente después del choque, informaron medios locales. El autobús se dirigía de la capital Rabat a El Aaiún, en el Sáhara Occidental.
Aseguraron que la mayoría de los muertos son niños, que regresaban de un campeonato en Bouznika, en el norte del país. La radio marroquí había reportado anteriormente que más de 40 personas perdieron la vida.
El siniestro se registró a las 07:00 horas locales a la altura de la comunidad de Chbika, de acuerdo con las citadas fuentes.
Los heridos, dos de los cuales se encuentran en estado grave, fueron llevados al hospital Hasan II de Tan-Tan, en la región de Guelmim-Esmara, en el suroeste del país.
Hasta el lugar del accidente se han trasladado efectivos de la Gendarmería Real y de Protección Civil para llevar a cabo las operaciones de rescate.
