México.- El gobierno de Pakistán ejecutó hoy a un hombre que fue condenado en 1992, cuando tenía sólo 15 años y tras haber confesado bajo tortura varios asesinatos, un caso que causó enormemalestar y rechazo entre grupos de derechos humanos y las Naciones Unidas. Aftab Bahadur, ahora de 37 años, fue condenado por el asesinato de una mujer y sus dos hijos en septiembre de 1992; pasó más de 22 años esperando su ejecución.
En ese momento, la pena de muerte podría ser imputable a los 15 años, pero la edad mínima se elevó a 18 en 2000.
El hombre fue ahorcado este miércoles en la cárcel de Kot Lakhpat en la ciudad oriental de Lahore, indicaron funcionarios de la prisión, de acuerdo con la cadena de televisión paquistaní Geo TV.
El primer ministro, Nawaz Sharif, levantó la moratoria sobre la pena de muerte el año pasado, un día después que talibanes paquistaníes atacaron una escuela y mataron a 134 alumnos y 19 adultos. Desde entonces, autoridades pasquistaníes han ejecutado a más de un centenar de personas.
La Oficina de Derechos Humanos de la ONU en Pakistán expresó a mediados de marzo su preocupación por las últimas ejecuciones en el país y por la decisión del gobierno de aplicar también la pena capital a los condenados por delitos no relacionados con el terrorismo.
El grupo Justicia Proyecto Pakistán y el británico Reprieve señalaron que en el momento de los hechos Aftab Bahadur Masih tenía 15 años, por lo que era demasiado joven para hacer frente a la pena de muerte, además fue torturado hasta confesar el crimen.
«Pakistán procedió con la ejecución de Bahadur pese haber sido condenado a muerte cuando era un niño, en violación del derecho internacional y de Pakistán», sostuvo Reprieve en un comunicado.
