El presidente de Bolivia, Evo Morales, dijo que existe «mucho deseo» de normalizar relaciones diplomáticas con Estados Unidos, quebrantadas desde 2008 por la expulsión mutua de embajadores, con la única condición del «respeto».
«Tenemos mucho deseo de reponer nuestros embajadores, lo único que pedimos es respeto», dijo el mandatario boliviano.
Morales consideró que «hay un mensaje (que) vamos a evaluar, a analizar frente a este mensaje del presidente Obama de enviar una comisión de alto nivel», encabezada por Tom Malinowski, secretario de Estado adjunto para la Democracia Y Derechos Humanos.
El mandatario expulsó en 2008 a la agencia antidrogas DEA y al embajador norteamericano Phillip Goldberg, acusándolos de intromisión política. Washington negó los cargos y en reciprocidad echó al embajador boliviano.
En noviembre de 2011 ambos países anunciaron esfuerzos para reponer embajadores, aunque hasta ahora las embajadas siguen a cargo de encargados de negocios.
En diciembre pasado, el gobierno boliviano propuso una reunión entre los presidentes Morales y Obama para reencaminar las relaciones diplomáticas.
«Estamos haciendo gestiones de un encuentro de alto nivel», admitió Morales.
A pesar del deseo de normalizar nexos diplomáticos, Morales aprovechó la rueda de prensa para responsabilizar a EEUU del desplome del precio internacional del petróleo.
«La alianza entre Estados Unidos y Arabia Saudita hace rebajar el petróleo para fines netamente geopolíticos» en contra de Venezuela y Rusia, aseveró.
