Reikiavik.- El descubrimiento de fallas en el hielo formado sobre el volcán Bárdarbunga en Islandia podrían indicar la inminencia de una erupción, informaron las autoridades de dicho país.
Un vuelo de inspección efectuado este miércoles, indica que los científicos descubrieron una línea de 4 a 6 kilómetros con cráteres de entre 10 a 15 metros de profundidad, así como un kilómetro de ancho en el glaciar Vatnajökull, debajo del cual se localiza el volcán.
Las fallas son producto del deshielo, «posiblemente a causa de una erupción cuya fecha es incierta» detalló el Instituto Meteorológico Islandés (IMO).
La actividad sísmica continuo este jueves y produjo un sismo de 5 grados de magnitud, que fue menor que el sismo del martes que alcanzó los 5.7 grados en la escala de Ritcher.
La erupción del volcán islandés podría afectar el espacio aéreo de Europa, ocasionando la cancelación de los vuelos.
