El príncipe Enrique, el menor de los hijos del príncipe Carlos y la fallecida princesa Diana, anunció que dejará las Fuerzas Armadas después de diez años de servicio en los que fue desplegado en Afganistán en dos ocasiones (2008 y 2012).
“Después de una década de servicio, dejar el ejército ha sido una decisión muy dura. Me considero increíblemente afortunado de haber tenido la oportunidad de realizar trabajos desafiantes y de haber conocido gente increíble en el proceso”, afirmó el príncipe en un comunicado.
El príncipe, de 30 años de edad, quien obtuvo el rango de capitán del ejército, fue copiloto y artillero de helicópteros Apache.
Antes de dejar el ejército británico, el hermano menor del príncipe Guillermo, pasará cuatro semanas en las fuerzas armadas de Australia, donde estará asignado a distintas unidades del ejército.
El príncipe Enrique señaló que está “muy emocionado” por su futuro y agregó que “mientras concluye una parte de mi vida, doy inicio inmediatamente a un nuevo capítulo”.
Se espera que “Harry” siga apoyando las actividades públicas de su abuela la reina Isabel II, de 88 años de edad, y de la familia real, destacó el palacio de Kensington, residencia oficial del príncipe Enrique.
