México.- Mark Zuckerberg y Priscilla Chang respondieron a las posturas anti-inmigrantes encabezadas por Donald Trump con una donación de 5 millones de dólares para dreamers, jóvenes migrantes que llegaron a Estados Unidos siendo niños y que se esfuerzan por una carrera universitaria.
“Cientos de miles de jóvenes inmigrantes forman parte de nuestras comunidades y acuden a las escuelas de forma legal en Estados Unidos”, escribió el presidente y director general de Facebook. “Muchos de ellos se mudaron a Estados Unidos a una edad temprana y no recuerdan haber vivido en ningún otro lugar. Quieren quedarse en el país y aman ser parte del futuro de Estados Unidos”.
Sin embargo al no tener documentación los jóvenes migrantes no pueden acceder a la educación universitaria pues carecen de apoyos gubernamentales.
“Estados Unidos fue fundado como una nación de inmigrantes. Tenemos que dar la bienvenida a los jóvenes listos y trabajadores de cualquier nación así como ayudar a cualquiera en nuestra sociedad a explotar su potencial”, agregó.
La donación realizada por Zuckerberg y Chang creará becas para más de 400 dreamers en la bahía de San Francisco para los próximos años.
“Para los próximos años nuestra esperanza es que cientos de estudiantes se gradúen con titulación para que continúen construyendo carreras significativas”, subrayó Zuckerberg.
En Estados Unidos hay cerca de 1.7 millones de niños y adolescentes que llegaron cuando eran niños y que carecen de un estatus de ciudadanía.
